An old nun who was living in a convent next to a construction site noticed the coarse language of the workers and decided to spend some time with them to correct their ways.
She decided she would take her lunch; sit with the workers; and talk with them. She put her sandwich in a brown bag and walked over to the spot where the men were eating.
Sporting a big smile, she walked up to the group and asked: "And do you men know Jesus Christ?"
They shook their heads and looked at each other... very confused. One of the workers looked up into the steelworks and yelled out, "Anybody up there know Jesus Christ?"
One of the steelworkers yelled down, "Why?"

The worker yelled back, "'Cause his wife's here with his lunch."

  We lost a friend yesterday...
He was an extremely cute puppy. We bought him home 14 years ago this month. Right after I retired from the navy and bought our first home. He helped make it a real home.
He was a lot of fun. A lively puppy that chewed on things he shouldn't have and tore up things he shouldn't have, but he was too cute to get really mad at...

He occasionally played a mild mannered reporter for a great metropolitan newspaper who turned into SuperDog when we needed him most...

And he grew up to become such a handsome young man...

I miss him. Shaq was a good dog. He knew when I needed him to just lay there and let me pet him. He knew our moods. He knew how to make us smile.

He chewed up our dining room table once...he chewed up the banister in our first house...and then I started giving him ice as a snack and he stopped all that. His Pavlov's dog was the sound of the ice dispenser on the front of the fridge. Any time someone went to the fridge to get ice and he heard it he came running. Most people didn't understand what he wanted. When we got a new dog, she came running right along with him a few times. She was a little quicker about figuring out that it was only water and she had plenty in the water bowl. But Shaq came running every time, until a few months back...

I say I miss him, but I had been missing him for a while now. He really wasn't Shaq anymore. He couldn't hear much, which was good for him, because before that lightning scared the hell out of him. He couldn't see very well...and it seemed to take him forever to lay down and get back up...

I held his head yesterday at the vets office. We all went. Dee, Amber, Mug and me. We made it a family thing. The fight going on inside my head was an ugly one. Knowing that what we were doing was the right thing. That Shaq needed a rest, but also feeling a deep hurt because I was losing a friend. I held his head as the vet pumped the pink looking fluid into his front paw...

...and then I cried, like I am now thinking about it.

I miss you buddy. I really miss you.

Not sure if I am THE ugly American, but I must be AN ugly American, because some Canadian told me so!!!
