And the saga continues...
I already told you my pop got a new heart two weeks ago...well, two weeks from this Thursday!
I guess mom was feeling a little left out so she went out in a nice big ice storm last Wednesday afternoon and slipped on the ice! She broke her other hip! Now she's running duel hemi's! You see, they call the hip replacement that she received for the second time a hemi-arthroscopy or hemi for short. When she had her first hip replaced last year I asked her one day as she was walking away from me...Hey Lady! Gotta hemi in that thing? She said, as a matter of fact, I do!
Well, mom is sporting duel hemi's now! She's doing well...already out of the hospital at at a rehab center. I took a little walk with her yesterday!
Now the race is on to see who gets home first, mom or dad!
I actually said the other day that I think my mom broke her other hip because she figured that my dad with his new 24 year old heart was probably gonna break it anyway! So it was really preventive medicine!!!
I really crack myself up sometimes!!!
An amazing thing happened last week...
My dad called me late Wednesday night...almost midnight it was...
You see, he's been in the hospital for the last two months and we talk all the time and last Wednesday wasn't much different. Well, it was different in one sense. It was the third time he had told me that the hospital staff had told him not to eat or drink anything. And it was the first time he called me that late at night from the hospital.
My dad's been waiting for a heart. Apparently, one was coming available. So, like I told a few other people, the possibility that one family’s tragedy was becoming another family’s hope was happening again.
Then, at 5 AM Thursday morning, he called me again. He told me that they had just finished cleaning him up and they were taking him down to the operating room at 6:30! I told him, I’d be there when he woke up!
I had to go back to Virginia Beach yesterday. I had a trip already scheduled to Boston. Before I left I went up to the hospital to say goodbye to my dad. I put my hand on his chest. I wanted to feel that new heart beating. The only thing that came out of my mouth when I felt that heart beating was…Dad, that’s just fucking awesome! Sorry for the language, but hey! It really is….FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!!!
