I hate it when that happens!!!
I went to the Armstrong Redwoods today. It's a really awesome place and I took some pictures, a few of which I was looking at when I did something that caused them to all disappear! All of them! Gone! Where are they? Not on the camera, not on the laptop...like I said, I hate it when that happens!
I'm not sure the pictures would have done the visit justice. There's really no way to get all of one of these spectacular trees in one frame. I think you need a video camera so you can pan up and down the trees and all around.
I'd say it was like a tropical rain forest but it was a little too cold for that. It's a very damp place, moss growing on everything, kind of dark, but not really scary. Standing among the monstrous trees I really felt pretty safe, like nothing could get to me in there. The trees would protect me.
You just can't imagine how big these trees are if you've never seen them. I walked by one tree that had fallen who knows how long ago and at one spot some of the bark had fallen away from the tree. I swear, it was 3 or 4 inches thick!
The Colonel Armstrong, I guess the biggest tree in this grove of Redwoods is estimated to be over 1300 years old. It stands over 300 feet in the air and has a diameter of around 14 feet. Makes you realize how small you really are in this big old world we live in...
I'll visit again and maybe next time I'll be a little smarter than my camera!?!
